That's the christian argument, yes. But you must understand the need for proof when all we're given is an old book with stories as proof. Scientists have come up with actual proof of how the earth was made, which completely rules out the 7 days God spent "creating it". So if that's a lie, what else is? I agree with the message the bible projects like "love thy neighbor". However, there's plenty of it I don't agree with. There's so much counter arguments for the God/Jesus debate which make it hard to believe.
Personally, I'm Atheist/Agnostic. I can't say I'm fully against the idea of God because when I need to desperately, I pray. I look to the heavens and speak to my Dad for example (passed away) and though I never get a reply, I do feel safer. Though, I don't believe in the God the bible represents, I don't believe in heaven and I don't believe we're alone in the universe. A lot of Christians I know are ignorant as ignorant can be, and that ruins the perception of Christianity in my opinion. Jehovah witnesses are a classic example. They go around, spreading the message of God which is fine, but they wouldn't give blood to their own kid if it meant saving their life, as it's apparently "playing god".
I can't look around and say "wow, there must be a God because of all the things I see" as there's too much negativity. Yes there is amazing sights, yes the chances of us being able to live is slim but somehow we managed it, but if there was a God he wouldn't let the negative outcomes in the world surface. For example, the disaster in Japan. He wouldn't allow people to be needlessly murdered, and family members from that murder committing suicide and children visibly seeing those bad things, and in result of that not being socially accepted.
