Adultery: A Matter for Adults not Courts

Should adultery be decriminalized? In other words, even though adultery would continue to be a civil offense, the subject lawsuits, it would no longer be a criminal offense, subject to fines and imprisonment. Many would say yes. After all, this is the twentieth century and most of our nations now are modernized.

Old-fashioned, unnecessary customs are being replaced throughout society, ad these include traditional ideas of marriage and fidelity. It is not that monogamy itself is out of date - nearly all would insist on one lover a lifetime as the ideal. But not everyone lands in a perfect marriage. Unfortunately, people change over time, and a once-loving relationship may turn bitter and boring.

Sometimes, an affair revives a sense of self-worth in the "cheating" partner and leads to renewed ardor; sometimes it leads to the break-up of an unfulfilling, unhappy union - but ending it opens the door to the possibility of a new, successful one. It's time we treated errant spouses as adults, able to admit mistakes in life and take steps to correct them, rather than as criminals who must be segregated from the rest of the society.

Discussion points:
1. Should current law on adultery be abolished or maintained?
2. How severely should adulterers be punished? Fined? Imprisoned? Executed? Or merely open being sued?

I am a woman and I must admit that I will be biased for my gender. I think it is time for the law to be changed as in accordance to what's the reality of life. Today, women go out of the house to work and this situation is very much different from yesterday. We need to look up the consequences that forced or made a woman commit adultery. The law maybe harsh but it is the law, yes, but we can still make laws more understanding and pliable to the concerned and the aggrieved party. I don't want family to break up but making the law more pliable will save the family. How about settling the issues within the adults themselves and not in court or in any likes it.

In number one, be abolished. In number two, let there be punishment on their life but not executed or prosecuted. What if the case is like this:

A young couple thought they love each other but after a few years of getting married, true colors or characters that are unacceptable to each other begun to sprung and they both don’t have the means to get an annulment or nullify their marriage? Will they stuck themselves with each other, hurting each other and the people who love them especially if they have kids? What if when they get older, they bump into someone that they truly felt LOVE? They will be condemn as adulteruos? Is truly loving and be with the one you love have be have a punishment? Hehe..well, just my opinion.

First one, I think that the law should be maintained about adultery. Being adulterous is morally and legally wrong. We are both aware of that.
This will be done through punishment and of course, one could not be punished without the accordance of the law for we are living in the world where laws are practiced and kept and thus, implemented.

In such a case presented, I think there is always a means to solve the issues of marriage and conflicts between marriage let alone divorce and annulment to legally end the bond of their marriage contract. At most, if true love is found, the couple could talk about it and could come up with the solution to separate. It does not mean that if they found true love they could commit adultery, as per line in the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines - Adultery is the consensual sexual intercourse between a married woman and a man who is not her husband and a related act of concubinage or a man cohabiting with a woman who is not her wife. If true love is found from another person who is not the person's husband or wife, then it is still possible not to commit adultery.

It is then a matter for adults to settle the issues but if necessary, the courts could be best legal option to end the bond between marriage.
