Introduction
AIM is an abbreviation for AOL Instant Messenger and is an instant messaging client. AIM first entered the scene in 1991 for DOS; it was then made accessible for Windows and Mac in 1992 and 1993. AIM was first introduced as a free program software and has remained free until this day. AIM is a communication tool that allows users to keep in touch with many people through text, video and multimedia chat.

Aim is an ever changing medium, it is constantly being updated. New versions of aim have added security and new features such as the Buddy List. To download the new version of aim go to Aim.com and click download. To obtain an old version of aim go visit this site. Some aim clients are better then others so try a few out before you make your final decision on which one to use.

Aim Security
It is very important to follow the steps below in order to secure your aim account.

Password Protection
It is very important to select a password that is not easy to guess. The password needs to include numbers and special characters. Complex passwords make it harder for others to access your account.

Security Question
Along with your password it is important to create a strong security question that is not easy to guess. The security question needs to include numbers and special characters.

  The most important thing you can do to protect your aim is to place an alternate email on it.
• Gmail
  - Is it very important to put a Gmail as your alternate on your aim account. This is currently the safest form of email to put as an alternate.
• 2-Step Verification
  - Make sure to set up your Gmail with 2-Step verification on your phone.

Name on Account
Never put your actual name on your account, it is very easy to reset the password with the owners name.

Privacy
Aim is different from other clients, it does not require the approval of both buddies to be add a user to one's buddy list. As a result, it is possible for users to keep other users on their buddy list, read their status and away messages, and read their profiles. Users can block another user from communicating and seeing one's status. A very good privacy option is to select an option in privacy settings only allowing communication with those on one's buddy list.
