"America"
I find it really stupid when people say "America" and they refer to U.S only. There are many other places in America than just the United States. For example, a good place called Canada, and don't forget about south and middle America.
So I don't think that people should refer to America as if it was only United States.

Now,
"Americans"
Well yes, U.S people are Americans, so are Canadians and people from south and middle America... So if someone isn't from the U.S but was still born in America, he isn't an American? Wtf lol. I'm from South America, and I can say I'm American because I was born in America, but some people don't think the same way...

There's a quote by some guy,
"America for the Americans", I really like this one, but its "American" meaning is that "Americans" can do anything they want, have more rights over other Americans, and that America is only for them...

Yeah why do Canadians say Americans suck? And the correct term is North America, which is Canada, US. South America being All those countries down there.

In modern language, Americas is used to refer to all nations and islands in North and South America; the singular, America, is used to refer to the United States of America.

When you refer to Asians, you do not think of Indians, Pakistanis, and Russians do you? Although the denotation of the word is important, it is the connotation of the word that matters. For example, when I say "******", you automatically get on your toes and "gasp, he said the N-word". However, the intended meaning is not at all close to the connotation.

So no, I don't find using "American" instead of "North American" that big of a deal. Since others know what we are talking about, there is no harm in it. Although, I do understand that there are some who get offended when, for example, you go to South America and say you are from America.

"The United States of America (also called the United States, the U.S., the USA, America, and the States"-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States

Theres a big difference between America and the Americas. I'm American, I live in the US. You are Canadian, you live in Canada.
Go drink some more beer eh?
Hehe don't be hating my parents are Canadian as are most my relatives.
