Are Social Networking Sites Good For Our Society​

For this debate topic the are two rules about your replies.​

1. It can't include that it helps you make money through buying and selling the usernames.

2. It can't be based of you, it has to include everyone who uses them including all age groups from 13-100+​

[Note: I will be editing my answer later tonight and adding more]My Answer: I think it is good and bad. The reason I think it is good is because people can meet people on the internet (which is fun) and connect with people in real life. The reason I think this is bad is because it can leak people's person information on the internet, it has led people to commit suicide (through cyber bullying), and makes it open for predators to hunt people down.

It's a way of communication. It connects you to a wider range of people. Allows you to meet more people. I don't really see a negative other than not making actual contact with these people, which can be arranged through these sites.

Social media sites are made up of many pros and cons.

Some pros of social media are that it allows people to be more social with others, maybe to open up more than they are in person.
Social media sites allow people to make new friends, express who they are, and pretty much be themselves.

Cons can consist of several things, one main problem of it, cyberbullying. Social media sites have led to the suicides of many people across the country and over seas. These sites may cause people to crawl into a shell and hide out due to harsh insults and comments.

The thing is, people don't have to make accounts on social media sites. Most people are aware of the different possible things that may happen to them. I'd say social media sites shouldn't be allowed, but I personally think that they are an overall positive influence. ( In a sense.. ) Even if someone is being cyberbullied, they are able to block these people from accessing their profile, and if harassment continues the victim can either notify authorities or the school they attend ( if in school ). I'm sure the matter would be handled quickly as bullying is being viewed more and more as suicides have become a big problem.

These social media sites do not force people to sign up, people do it at their own will.
The sites give them the oppurtunity to escape the bullying by blocking the attacker or reporting them.

So in general, yes I think social media sites are good for our society.
