Are you ready to start coding?
Are you ready to start coding, do you have what it takes to be a coder? Well after this post you should know!
Physical Requirements/Mental Requirements
You Must be able to concentrate! If this is hard for you coding will not be a walk in the park (it isn't anyway, but you know what i mean) you will struggle. Coding will require you to sit at the computer for hours (if you are dedicated enough) reading, typing, editing, clicking, and cursing. (the last one is optional) You will read tutorials, with lots of big words so be prepared to think, IT WILL NOT BE LIKE LEARNING YOUR ABCs IT WILL TAKE TIME!
You must like to learn! There isn't a programmer out there that know everything about programming it is just impossible! You will always learn new code, new syntax, new string format, and well learn how to program/code for new devices.
Computer Requirements
Any operating system will do, EXCEPT for the following two languages (That I know of) iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) as you will need a mac to download it from apple, and visual basic as it uses a software only on windows (I don't use so may be incorrect). For most other languages Python, C++, C♯ (Pronounced C-Sharp not C-Number), perl, Java, Flash, pHp, HTML, MySQL can be used on Apple/Mac, Windows, and just about all versions of linux.
A developers notepad will help through your career as it can be set to specific language syntax, so it will help you. I recommend Programmers Notepad.
You will need the SDK for the language you choose, if it is not a web developing language. (sort of excluding MySQL as it is special, but you can look that up your self)
here is what i can find
http://www.python.org/
http://www.microsoft.com/net/ (used for some c and all VB code)
http://www.microsoft.com/express/ (great tool for windows users coding in c++, c-)
http://www.perl.org/
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
http://www.adobe.com/ (for flash)
the rest is web code, so no SDK or anything is needed, all you need is a webbrowser.
