What to do what to do.

I have decided to go for web development, and now I can't decide to do ASP or PHP.

ASP is more in demand for larger companies, PHP is more in demand for private jobs.

I can't decide, both are amazing languages and both can be used for great projects.

What should I learn?

Start with php, get an average knowledge and do "private" jobs for them whilst start learning ASP. What i would try if i was to learn

Like Spaz above, I would also recommend PHP to learn. Its a rapid development platform and you can easily move into other languages after learning it such as Javascript. If not, why not try Ruby on Rails; I've started to learn it and its pretty dynamic

This doesn't make sense.

PHP is not anything like ASP, switching from PHP to ASP would be like switching from C++ to Visual Basic, wouldn't work out well.

Javascript is a fairly simple scripting language, but I never have been a fan of java.

I REFUSE to learn Ruby, I tried and absolutely hated it.

I will be trying to learn PHP, but that means that I have to be good at HTML...

It's not hard learning HTML at all though Wiggles, lol. I consider myself an very advanced HTML user now without ever taking lessons, just a few google researches and you're set (when working with it a lot that is). When I get more time and MF starts to progress on its own I'll be learning php in depth, and then moving on to SQL and Javascript.

Personally I thnk SQL is a waste of time, but that is because I can use the database thing in the .Net framework to connect, insert, update, and create new tables.

Javascript is simple, well atleast unity script is and that is what i know and it is a branch off of the javascript scripting language.

I'd consider myself out of 100 to have a 20% understanding of Javascript. And in my case, learning SQL could be really handy. Not creating things, but maintaining them. With the goals I have on this forum, SQL could be key.

What i meant was that learn php, make money from it doing private jobs then learn ASP for the future. i never said they were alike, i was giving him what i would do.

EG: Learn VB to do private small jobs to earn some money whilst i learnt C++ for bigger jobs.
