Best Laptop?

Its my 18th in a month and my mum said she would like to get me a laptop for university.

Its going to be used for mainly word processing, coding, progamming, web, movies, downloads and perhaps gaming etc

Im not one for webbooks, and neither am I the one for huge laptops that are bigger than my desktop monitor.

Ive always wanted the macbook but for what I want to do, i require it to run on windows.

Before you say Alienware, the 17inch is far too expensive and the battery life is kinda crap. I require a laptop with a good few hours battery life, although the M14x is extremely tempting, especially as its just been released!

What laptop would you recommend? Dont worry about the price aslong as its not gold plated and costs £10,000 etc. ::Tounge:: Ill propably put moneies towards it anyway.

Let me know

Cheers

So you know, thats $999 and you can buy them for around £450 in the UK, which has dropped since it was released :)

The M11x is too small, its more of a netbook, and the next one up is the m14x.

Reading reviews the m11x is too small for the prize, and the m15z is too big to be portable, so the m14x is bang in the middle.

They also do m17x and m18x but due to the weight they will be anchored to a desk, which i dont want.

yer but the M14x is a bit pricey and tbh if i were you i would get the m11x caus its a nice all rounder and very portable but yer the M14x might suit you better if you dont want somthing that small but the only thing is with laptops id only ever have an alien ware so i dont know much about the other companies.
btw i saw a macbook air in a shop the other day and it looks great up close and i would have thought you could wipe it an install windows on it anyway.

Im not too keen on the idea of whiping a perfectly fine operating system off a laptop perposfully made for that operating system, then installing a differnet operating system which has been cracked.
Im not sure if its even possible, and if it was for me to even think about it was if I could get a discount for not having an operating system installed when I purchased it.

The m11x is just too small for what I want it for. Ive never like the netbook idea. And also the m11x doesnt have a cd drive! You have to buy a external one. I know this because my friend has one.
I was looking at it today and he does agree he should have waited for the 14, as it is only abit more than how much he paid for his 11 when it first came out.

Why would anyone in their right mind purchase a Dell, HP, or Alienware machine? Pieces of shit.

If you are going to go with a production machine, go with Toshiba, Acer, or ASUS.

Tbh ive been put off by Asus because of their reliability, and I cannot have my laptop break when Im at Uni.

Also none of Asus' really look cool enough. The gaming laptops looks hideous, and only the ASUS B53F looks any good and meets my requirements.

Also for the Acer, for the price of the the Aspire Ethos, which is their performance, I could get a same size Alienware with 2 more cores!

Alienware is just dell. A horrid pile of crap.

ASUS makes their own motherboards and their computers are reliable in my experience.
Same with Acer. Just because a computer looks good and has good specs, doesn't mean it will ultimately perform well.

My mother has an HP 17" G71 with an Intel processor and a 640GB hard drive, which has barely worked, has one broken USB port, and the biggest thing, is that she barely used it and it has not lasted over two-years.

I am using my father's girlfriend's Dell right now, with an i5 in it, and Firefox is slower than shit with nothing else open.

Thats strange because all the Dells I've worked with are great.

Much better than the Vaios we used to have.

Does the Vaio even count as a laptop?

Bottom line, Dell (and Alienware), Toshiba, Sony, etc, all use motherboards by FOXCONN. (Slave labor in China, 62 cents per day.)

Whereas, ASUS and Acer, make their own.
