Bitcoin Question

Not sure if this is the right place to post or not but how does bitcoin work ? I want to start using it but not sure how. Do i need an account and how do I transfer money ? Also is it only for the phone or can I use it for the desktop as well ?

Sign up at blockchain.info it's very easy to use and straight forward.

You can create an account on blockchain.info, from there, you can send and receive BTC. There is an app for it, yes. There is also a currency exchange section where you can purchase BTC from people through PayPal, but I would get a little more rep before doing that. Other than that, you can purchase BTC from a few sites I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) or you can sell items here for BTC.

I get mine from either https://localbitcoins.com/ or https://bittylicious.com/ < that one being UK only.

I only really use LocalBitcoins to sell what I make from mining. ;-D

There are several sites out there, I know of coinbase and localbitcoins

I suggest you start with the Official BTC Website. You need to download a Wallet Program or use an online Wallet like Blockchain. That's pretty much all. All you need next is to participate in the contests or make money and transfer them to your wallet.
