Board Message Styling

On the homepage of the forum we have two board messages with different styling.

Ignore the green colouring of the second, im more bothered about their looks.
The second is just a border on the top and bottom, whilst the second is a replica of the selected tab from out tabbed menu.

My question to you is which one looks the best and you prefer?
Simple or complex.

The first more complex one looks really, really good. I think we should go with that one.
