The people who want the WWII gameplay back will not complain, I don't see the logic you're trying to convey. Obviously it is the timeline, and a lot of people don't like it. But then again, a lot of people do.
People have different opinions on games, so of course there will be people who don't approve of the drastic change.
I'm not sure a lot of people do want the WWII gameplay back though, I know a few do but not very many. That era has already been exhausted by CoD so I'm not sure they'll bring it back. Although I have heard rumours about a "World at War 2" that intrigued me.
What do you mean by drastic change? Call of Duty has been futuristic since 2011 when MW3 came out.
MW3 was set in 2014/2015 and had some futuristic elements and in 2012 when BO2 came out the futuristic elements become more prominent.
Since BO2 (2012) the game has been headed in that direction, as Ghosts (2013) came out and was set in a futuristic timeline and obviously Advanced Warfare (2014) was, well,
Advanced. This has been a long time coming, so the change isn't drastic. It just follows the ever popular trend of futuristic warfare.
I understand that a lot of people dislike the futuristic gameplay though, but I guess they'll have to deal with it because nothing we say can change the developers minds.
