Could someone explain how exactly a chargeback works and how to stop someone from doing it?

I am assuming you are talking about paypal? To prevent someone from charging back the money, you need to ask them to send the money as a gift I believe. You can also ask the person to say, in the notes section, that they have received the item that they were paying for. Just to be safe.

You're still able to chargeback when sending / receiving money as gifts.

Is there anyway to stop someone from doing so?

That someone has 46 days (I think) to ask for a chargeback. If 46 days pass and he doesn't tries to chargeback, then he won't be able to ask for one.
I think it is 46 days, not sure.

Some people do the claim / cancel method which stops people from filing another report on that transaction.
I'm not 100% sure about this though as I haven't done it before.

You can't stop them, which is the biggest flaw of selling/buying rsgp.

When selling, sell you bulk buyers that are trusted, its alot less but some money is better then none.

Otherwise use player auctions.

I assume you mean Paypal, so chargeback work like this... the buyer (person who paid you) initiates a chargeback and Paypal informs you of the situation. Once you are informed, you have a certain amount of days to accept it or dispute it. If you accept it, the buyer gets refunded. If you dispute it, you have to provide evidence and Paypal determines who was right and proceeds with appropriate action. There is not way to stop chargebacks, but one way that I have heard people try to prevent successful chargebacks is that you make them chargeback and deny it, so they can't chargeback for real at a later time.

I heard that sending it as a gift and making them write a note that states "I have received the item(s)" will ensure that you won't be chargebacked. Is this true?

Just use player auctions, probably one the safest ways to sell/buy.

That is not true. You can still chargeback.

This is what you can do. Make 2 paypal account, one your main and second should be the fake account. Now, when you are selling RSGP to someone, you basically ask the buyer to send you the payment on your fake paypal account and thn once you get the payment you send it to your main paypal account without any delays and thn you give him the RSGP. Once you are done everything, basically close your fake paypal account and make a new one for next trade. The buyer cant chargeback and if in case he does, you wont lose anything.
Cheers.

I do this.

Another way is to make them chargeback and the cancel the disput, I think that makes it so they can't open another one.
