Corruption, is it inevitable?

I've been a firm believer that not everybody succumbs to corruption.
But in light of recent events, I'm rather skeptical about the subject.

So, my question to those wish to answer, does power corrupt everything in it's path?
Is it reasonable to suggest that power inevitably clouds one's judgement?

I beg @"Cann!bal"'s response.

Corruption is a sensitive topic when looked at in a certain light of things.

Recently we watched a movie in civics class called "lord of the flies" which is heavily revolved around human society and wether or not humans are born as selfish self induced beings. Or wether society makes us such.

I personally think corruption in inevitable because if lust and wanting. When people get used to buying stuff they have the lust for more. At some point they feel or just can't buy/get what they want and that's when most people go corrupt. I personally think corruption is inevitable because humans are naturally born selfish and gready being who strive for more.

That's just my opinion.

I agree with you on many points, that corruption is a cocktail of selfishness and greed.

But what if I were to remove wealth from the equation?
Do you think it would still be inevitable if wealth was not a factor of interest?

Is it possible for one's judgement to be clouded by their own self righteousness?

I firmly believe that the answer is yes.
Adolf Hitler being a prime example of this.

I agree with you as well. Even without wealth out of the equation there is still stuff not everyone can obtain. Such as power. Corruption doesn't only revolve around material objects :)

There are an immeasurable number of things that can cloud one's judgement. I find any single example (in this case "power") quite irrelevant when compared to the other billions of things that influence one's thought process as a whole. Our brains are constantly adjusting/adapting/reacting, so it could be something as small as stubbing a toe that could cause you to behave differently than you would have in the next immediate situation. Is corruption inevitable? Its not a straight line answer, like yes or no. I think in this world, on this planet, being where we are now.. yes it is inevitable. The damage is done. I dont think necessary changes will be made in time to overcome all of the corruption within our race. Its too late. Actions need to take place, but the ones with the resources to carry them out are the ones who are corrupt. Im just running this all in my head...very very bad things are going to happen in our lifetime. What will come of it, I dont know.

No. I don't believe so, although it may seem this way. There have been many people given power and done amazing things. As with everything else, the small negative things receive more attention than the huge positive things happening at the same time. This is probably where you'd come up with such assumptions. Take a step back and look at things first.

I believe that if you have power, not all the time it will lead to corruption. It depends who has the power, what kind of power this person holds.

Not all power leads to corruption.
