[DENIED] Gaming servers

Basic idea. Probably thought of, but not really implimented.

Examples:

DayZ server(?)
Garry's mod server
Runescape private server
Minecraft server
CoD/BF3 server(s)
etc...

I wouldn't mind playing some games with people from the forums, especially stuff like Minecraft. It allows the people of Runegear to talk to others in different games, team up, and have fun. Not only this, but it would attract more attention to the forums than just the basic forums appeal. Of course, a little money may be needed to be put down for some things like this, but I think the outcome would be good if you could get some word out.

EDIT: I just thought of this. Not only would it bring in traffic into the community, but it would also help make money for Runegear. How you ask? Well, say you have a fully functional smooth running Tekkit minecraft server. You can install mods to that server, such as "mob disguise" or add different worlds for creative mode that some people may have to donate to the server to gain access to. For example, to gain access to mob disguise, you have to donate at least $15, and for creative mode inside of the creative world, you would pay $25. These are just examples! There are many more neat mods out there that people would probably donate for.

Edit 2: Another thing I thought of is competitions. CoD competitions, "the walls 2v2v2v2" (minecraft), building competitions (minecraft), capture the flag team vs team on any game, building competitions on Gmod, etc! Things like this can get you cash rewards, or free upgrades to access to specific commands on the server, such as mob disguise on minecraft, or just strait up awards on the forum, like "champion of CTF"

Let me know what you think.

RE: Gaming servers

Minecraft would be really fun. And so would DayZ.

And Gary's mod, is amazing, but idk about a server.

Support this.

RE: Gaming servers

If you guys have any other servers that you might like, mention them. I wouldn't mind seeing this put up. It could even have its own section.

For example, Minecraft could have a section for clans, PvP and whatnot. Same thing with everything else. Just would need to get enough people to get into it.

I like the idea.
A SA:MP or VC:MP server would be pretty nice two. A CoD 1 also. Just the games I know for sure that my pc can run. VC:MP is way more fun (imo) than SA:MP, so I'd prefer a VC:MP server, just saying. And by the way, if a VC/SA:MP server is going to be made, make it a DM/PvP server, not a role play one, they're gay.

All you need to do is port forward.

RE: Gaming servers

Honestly, i'd rather somebody put down $30 a month (or a group) for a few constant good servers than having a shit port-forwarded one. I don't like port-forwarded servers for obvious reasons. I'd prefer servers that would stay up either 24-7, or at least near the entire day, and mostly not rest on somebody's shoulder to make sure they turn it on every day.

A decent, basic minecraft server would be around $30-$40 a month, and you can even upgrade it to tekkit, which would be fun.

As for other servers, besides garry's mod, i've never hosted. I dont know the prices on those for services, or how you would go about hosting them.

RE: Gaming servers

Well your lookin at a dedicated server for each of those to have them run decently.

At the cheapest it would be $300/month upkeep.

A good DayZ server is only like $40 a month.

A good DayZ server is only like $40 a month.

Plus not many people will be playing it, only like 5-8 of us.

Yeah sure, if you want a server that can hold 100-200+ people.

We dont need a server like that. A good server, any game, such as minecraft or DayZ should run only $30-$50 a month, both run around $80-$90 a month. With premium subscription fee's still in play, upgrades, and donations by people who would be willing to help, I can see this being possible.

And by good, I mean holding around 20-50 people, depending on what you want/want to pay, without much lag.

RE: Gaming servers

I would start off with something small, potentially a MineCraft server, one that would cost less to host rather than another type of game, decide on whether it is successful or not and then move on from there, as Garry's Mod server requires a few staff members that'll look over everything, practically same for most games I'd assume.

Although, + Support.

I like the idea although I don't think we have enough people that would actually play them to make it even worth it, we have maybe 30 active members.

That's the thing. We've all talked about finding different ways to get the forum to be more popular, but we still haven't had anything very successful. While there is just recruiting friends, and random people finding the forum, theres nothing really super attractive. I honestly think having a server for a popular game would attract more people to the forum.

+game servers possibly ='s

+people
+traffic
+$$$
+fun
+??????

Yeah $300/month was for all of them.

Yeah, probably all of them. But we could just start off with a single DayZ, minecraft, or GMod server.

RE: Gaming servers

Lite RolePlay G-Mod server.
Lite RolePlay G-Mod server.
Lite RolePlay G-Mod server.

Did the message sink in?
Anyway, the only issue is finding someone to code in with the release of GMod13 out.

RE: Gaming servers

I think a TF2 server would be badass and not very expensive plus it would promote the forum if you made it a public server.

I don't think we have enough active players/members to run these.

RE: Gaming servers

If we run a minecraft server and have it active and have new people join it and therefore this forum, we could get new minecraft people active here.
