Do great relationships start out as friendships?

anyone have any personal experience with a relationship having been just friends first? in your opinion do friends end up having a better relationship once committed than people who start out dating from the get go?

i encountered this situation before. my best friend and i have developed each other and we became lovers but suddenly we broke up because my best friend had another woman so it was not great to start relationship with your friend.its better to accept the fact that you will be friends only. I'm recovering now;I had my boyfriend now who loves me so much and so do i.

i really dont think so but i know some of my friends that has started as friendships and ended in relationships :S

love is about understanding each other and trust your soul mate .Love can happen anytime as you see.
maybe first sight love strike for some of them .
for some people , being friends for long time make them understand each other , so they couple up., there is a high possibilities that friendships changed into love .

yup, it's proven.. my first boyfriend was my best friend for 4 years. we ended up falling in love, but we didn't work out as couples. we lasted for only 1 year. 11 months and 29 days, just one day before our 2nd year anniversary we broke up;( the worst part is, we can't even bring back our friendship..

for a relationship to work you need to have an understanding.and only a true friend understands you completely.a friend knows in and out of you.he knows each page of your life.he stays in each high and low of your life and so it can move on for a more intense relationship.i have seen many who started up as just friends and now they are so connected that they can't stay without each other.

Yes, I think friendship is a good foundation for having a strong relationship. My boyfriend and I became friends for one year then when we found out some common things that we are interested in, that's where we start to like each other. It was awkward at first because I never thought he's going to be my boyfriend. Everybody thinks he is a playboy because he is good looking, but I just thought he is friendly towards people. I love him because he is kind and it not abusive. Yes, that's the most important thing. For me, even though how much I love the guy but he is abusive, he is no good.

In some point I believed that good friendship is good base for a good relationship because if friendship involved between partners there is a stage where you can tell anything to her/him as a friend. My husband and I were sometimes thanks other for being a good friend with each of us. We were friend before we became couple and it is one thing that we like. But it really depends on the person because people change though you were best friends before getting married but later your feeling changed, so it another thing need to be considered as well.

I believe in that, that friendship is the foundation and for that you will turn as lovers. We can't deny the fact that friend first before you call lovers.

Friendship can grow into a a great love but it's not a guarantee that it's gonna work out just fine. Great love must outgrow all adversities of a relationship.

i never had such a experience in my whoel life these type of thing happen & shown only in the movies specially in bollywood movies it may have happen many times in reality too but i think only rare cases.

Not always. Some relationships developed in an instant and ends to be a great one. It could depend how intense the feelings are for each other I guess. But friendship is the strongest foundation of a good relationship. Princess Diana said to his son, Prince William, "marry your best friend", so Prince William did.
