I don't have anything against religious people, I'm not religious, I guess I'm an atheist but I don't really like that title as I feel like it has a really negative connotation.

My question: Do you think people interpret religion too much?

I've read parts of the bible in school, and it seems pretty simple. I feel like everyone who's religious paraphrases the bible, interprets it, and makes it a lot more textual than it actually is. Everyone seems to interpret everything they read in the Bible, and it also seems like you can kind-of make up anything that is good and about God and call it religion. From what I've seen, everyone interprets God and makes him "love everyone" and so on. I feel like it's okay to interpret the shit out of the Bible.

I don't know if this quite makes sense, and I can try to elaborate if anyone doesn't understand.

Feel free to correct me, I'm all ears.

Since there is no correct way to read the Bible, I don't see why it's okay to interpret it. For example;

Leviticus 20:13
"If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense."

I don't see how this could possibly interpreted to mean anything else. It is just blatant hate to those who are different.

I understand what you're saying. Christians, from what I've seen, often tend to interpret certain Bible passages to convey them as morally right and good, often just to convince someone that their religion is correct.

The blatant hatred and violence that is scriptured throughout the bible is compensated for by "interpreting" it in silly, ridiculous ways. I see no paraphrases, or captions deciphering its texts, just the words themselves. Aka, its bullshit.

I don't like when religious people say that god is a model to follow, then turn around and say that they disagree with gods message when it comes to specific issues like gay marriage. Pick your faith and stick with it people..
