Topic: Forum Mod additions.
Question: I'm currently messing around with a free forum based website (forumotion) just to learn the basics of designing forums + editing, etc. Is it possible to add additional mods that haven't been pre-included? If not, is there any free hosted forum website you could recommend?

Since you are online and he isn't, I will go ahead and answer for him the best way I can.

Although free forums are a good way to start, I would look into tutorials on how to upload myBB (A forum software, what this forum is using, MyBB). So do a few searches on google, or find a web constructing forum in it self that has other website/forum professionals. If you are a member on HF, take a look there. They have quite a few, and if you are not, PM me and I will help you set up there. (Mostly EVERYONE here knows about HF, so don't even think about reporting my post for advertising another forum, lol.)

co.cc is a good free domain name registration website that has DNS service. You can use that to practice uploading / adding addons / editing html for forums and other things.

I will actually upload a tutorial for you.

Forumotion is not really a realistic way to start, I would do what amped said and get a free host and install mybb or smf and mess around on there. To answer your question on mods, no you cannot because they are hosting the website.

If you want, I can set you up with one of my domains and a free host to mess around.

Neither, they both put really small caps on your bandwith usage and limit what you can do with your forums. You cannot add custom themes, design custom themes add plugins, modify the forums software yourself. The list goes on forever and it is not a good forums software to get comfortable with.

I would just use 000webhost.com and use the script installer to install mybb or smf. If you need any help then just ask and this will set no limits to what you or your imagination can do.

If I had to pick one of the ones you listed zetaboards IMO.
