"Don't blame others. You are in control." Fallacious Logic?

My science teacher told one of my peers to read this sign during class today when she was misbehaving. My first thought was that it was correct, but then I thought of dictatorships and rape. In the case of a dictatorship it would mean that it's your fault for not having certain rights. In the case of rape it would mean it's your fault for being raped, not theirs.

And ironically my science teacher was fired from his last job for allegedly touching a teenage girl sexually.

AND even more ironically he had another poster located right next to the aforementioned poster which was of a quote by Marcus Aurelius


Anyone have any thoughts about the first poster? I believe it's incorrect and false. However, I would be interested in other peoples' thoughts on it.

Of course it's fallacious, it's impossible for you to be in control because your wishes can be conflicting with someone else's, which would mean (usually) that only one of you can be in control in a situation. For example, if someone is getting raped, it's obvious that the rapist is the one in control.

When I was thinking about this, I thought perhaps it was true socially, but not physically. However, that's when I thought of political dictatorships.
