An Exoplanet is a planet outside of the Solar System. We know Earth is the only planet within the Solar System that is habitable for we humans. But what about other planets? It may be news to you that there are several of these Exoplanets currently being studied. Some of them appear to have conditions that support human life. Every day new planets are discovered. As of now there are over 4,000 confirmed exoplanets, most of which have been found in the past 10 years. That is quite an extraordinary amount of progress in such a small margin of time. If you would like to reference a database of these planets, here you are: http://exoplanets.org/

Moving forward, "Kepler" is the NASA program that specifically searches and studies planets that possess habitable qualities. Right now there are 246 confirmed "candidates" that meet our standards. Here is NASA's official page regarding this: http://kepler.nasa.gov/

Consider the damage we have done to Earth. We have abused its resources and polluted it. We have endangered and driven certain species extinct. We have overpopulated it and mistreated it in every way imagineable. Im not sure what the intentions of this small core of people are. Maybe they plan on abandoning this planet and leaving us here to die with it. I know that is what I would do. We supposedly dont have the technological ability to travel to any of these exoplanets as of right now. It is a constant work in progress. I just figured I would fill you all in lightly on how important and fascinating this is to me. It may effect us all at some point in our lives.

If given the oppurtunity, I would voluntarily leave this life and be part of an experimental settlement on one of these planets. Would you?
