Explain Me BTC

Now before I get started I have no idea how to use or how BTC works. The reason I am asking is because I came here to buy a gamertag and money is not an issue. It's just that everyone accepts different payment methods but they're all mainly BTC. I'm a new member and no one will trust me with PayPal which is understandable but if I need BTC to get one I need someone who will give me a quick lesson or brief of BTC.

I personally use coinbase as you can use it online.

BTC prices are in a sense like stocks, not entirely just in the sense that it fluctuates depending on demand.
