Extra Fan pushing other fan disengaged.

Ok so I have a extra PC fan that small for like laptop. I decided to put it on the outside to the desktop to push air out when other one is disengaged because its not to hot...


The reason I'm posting this is, I was wondering if it would change anything.. If so what would it change?

I know the temp. But do anything good?

How would a fan placed on the outside help push air from the inside out?. I really don't see the logic in that.

Can you explain it any better. Is it any of these

1. You have put the fan INSIDE the computer cabinet to push air out
2. You have put the fan OUTSIDE the computer cabinet for some odd reason
3. You have put a fan outside to push fresh air outside and into the computer.

The only thing it will do is remove a small amount of the heat from within the case. But that's about it.

Ok so I have the fan(s) inside the desktop pushing air out when it starts to get hot.. So thats how it is stock



Now on the outside of the container I have a fan pulling air from inside pushing new air in. The new air is colder air, to keep the system cooler.. So all the fans inside the container are untouched.. So it's pushing extra air in/out when the other fans are not on.

That should make a lot more sense now.

I have no idea what you are talking about, what is the container?. Is that the computer case?. Also how can a fan take out old air and replace it with new?. Is it a two steps fan?

If you use the correct terminology I might understand you though it might be my crappy English so perhaps it's just me whom doesn't understand

I think he means this:



Fan #1 (the extra fan) is placed over the grid of the PC case. Fan #2 is inside the case, but will never be as superior and free as #1.
Fan #2 occasionally gets jealous and finds it tedious to try and impress OEM, so he simply just refuses to cool the air inside the case, forcing #1 to do all the hard work.

Yeah, that's probably what he meant.

I see what you mean now OP. A fan from the buttom pushing the warm air upwards whereas a second fan sucks this up and pushes it outside.

@Anonymous, he is saying that he pushes cold air inside aswell... you did not include that in your paint drawing . Though he iprobobly has a reverse version as FAN number 1 attached to the cabinet aswell

Short answer: Yes it will make a difference.

Long answer: Yes it will make a difference but not as much as you're thinking. The only benefit that extra fan will do is get the returning dust pushed from the original fan out, and still it won't be 100%. It will decrease the temperature slightly, but yeah, every little helps.

@Anonymous: Once again your area of expertise in art amazes me.

Think about it logically and you will see it will make a difference, the amount (as you have discovered) is minimal, but if it's a spare one and not too noisy, might as well put it to good use.

Yes, it would improve the air flow decently. For those confused the external fan would be drawing air out of the computer case. This combined with the internal stock fan will allow a full circulation of air to move through the computer. This should decrease the rate at which the computer dusts; it will also keep the heat level lower then with just one fan.
