When you consider where life began, it is quite humbling to look at where we are as of right now. Lets start the timeline of life at evolution. It is a proven fact, and is acknowledged by every modern scientist as the process that occurred that led to to our development as humans. What happened before evolution is very controversal and is completely irrelevant to the point of this thread, so we will not discuss it.

Now, picture in your head, two Neanderthals (Cavemen in "laymans terms") sitting in a cave 600,000 years ago, just being. At this phase in the evolutionary cycle, they had very limited form of communication. Today, our culture and communication is extremely complex. For it to have grown from simple grunts and gestures, to inside jokes, tabboo and universal signals such as waving at someone is beyond amazing. That is just one aspect of our species to ponder. How did we come so far? We have those two primitive creatures to thank. Whatever it was they did, it worked.

Lets fast forward to today. Much has happened since our friends were in the cave, figuring out life for the first time. Every single thing that has ever happened, has somehow influenced you to be reading this sentence right now. Dont think about it too much, you will give yourself a headache. Just acknowledge it.

No matter how messed up things are in your life, no matter how much you hate society or your family, or the way you look. Just know that it wouldnt matter to our earliest relatives. If they could see what we are now, if they could even fathom it, they would be proud. They did their part.

Now, I have tried to put things in perspective for you. At least, in the perspective that I want you to be in when you read what im about to say:

Lets assume that the life we are all living right now is real. Some of you may have never thought otherwise. Believe it or not, there are multiple in-depth theories that propose that this life is not real, that it is all but an imagination. Well lets say it is real. If that is true, we are the now. Every single person that has ever lived up until this moment is dead, at least in the physical sense. They all set us up for success, using the brains they were born with to contribute to what we have today, in some way or another. Now it is our time. We are writing history as the moments go by. Tommorow will be the most recent day that there has ever been. When I think about that, there is glory. I came to the realization that we all have oppurtunity. It is extremely limited in some ways, but it is still there. Sometimes I truly hate my life, but right now I am appreciating that I even have a life to hate. Its just so humbling and enlightening to think about how I came to be me.

What do you guys think about this? To those of you who read this, thank you. I hope it was worth your time.

I am truly amazed when I step back and look at the universe. To think that I am so small compared to everything else is astounding. My existence means almost nothing, yet I find comfort in this. I think of it as a challenge; to be something, rather than nothing. Humans only came into existence in the last 200,000 years, yet the Earth has been in existence for something like 4.5 billion years. Our existence, as a species, is infinitesimal when you really think about it. It puts things into perspective for me. This is why I am offended when people take credit away from the marvelous beauty of nature, and give it to some illogical, hateful, non-existent being.

I am in aggreance with the both of you. For some reason, I too, find comfort in knowing I am such a small piece of the pie. I dont feel so obligated to live up to and surpass standards forced upon me by society. Its a relief. And at the same time, I am happy to be a part of such a great thing that is the Universe.

I concur. I ironically found significance in myself by embracing my insignificance.

To be precise, the first hominids that we define as homosapiens arose roughly 100,000 to 200,000 years ago. As for the Cosmos' aeon, the Universe is 13.8 billion years mature. Our home, Earth is 4.5 billion years mature, that's perhaps where you made the misconstruement.

That's what I meant. I must have read the article wrong. Thanks for the correction.
