Flaming in reputation

I'm not totally sure on the rules regarding reputation messages, but is their really a need for people to flame in reputation.

I'm aware, reputation = peoples opinions - but it's still not just.

I'm seeing more and more flaming in reputation, and people won't negative rep the flamer, because they know he'll take a huge shit on their rep.

Opinions? We need to fight back against the flamers who go about running their mouth like they own the damn' place.

Well, as long as the people who are giving the reputation have a legitimate reason for it, I'm sure they can put whatever they feel.

But, I'm not 100% sure if that is correct.

Most don't, they just flame because they think it makes them look cool, and to intimidate people into not negative repping them back.

Rep seems to matter to much to you. Reputation is opinion therefore as long as someone doesn't make a false accusation such as scamming whatever is put there is fine. I let users known when I have something wrong against them normally they flame back, no big deal...

A lot of people care, although depending on how severe the flaming is, it could be removed.

Reputation sort of matters, it's the next best thing after vouches, I have no vouches at the moment so if i didn't have rep I'd just be like someone who joined a few days ago that wasn't very active.

I disagree.

Within reason, if you piss someone off, for whatever reason, they should be allowed to express their input on you, no matter how explicit that judgement may be. That's one of the features of this reputation system. If we'd regulate what we can say in a reputation comment, it's like limiting our options on how we feel about someone, and that's just morbid.
