Yea that sucks, it's happened to me twice.
There are ways to fix it, it requires taking the Xbox apart.

Do not wrap it in a towel, it will only fix it for a short time.

Thinking about just buying a PS3. I just watch movies with family and friends all the time anyways. I don't play as much as I used to between school, work and my social life.

I repair Xboxs.
I do a reflow of the GPU, polish and add new silicone based thermal past to the heatsinks and GPU/CPU, and I install a 12V fan mod.

If I didn't have to pay any shipping, I would do it for cheap.
If I had the time that is.

Wrap it up in blankets, turn it on, leave it for 30 minutes.

I've done it many times to my old Xbox, and it works... but only for a day or 2. Try it.

False alarm. It wasn't the RROD. I was having some electrical work done in my house and I had to reset the breakers. I accidentally reset them while my Xbox was on so there was a power surge/outage. My Xbox is fine.
