ForumKorner's Third Anniversary
On the 18th of March, ForumKorner celebrated it's third anniversary. From the start of the anniversary, one thing was clear, giveaways were going to be big this year. The amount of members that participated in these giveaways was astonishing. @Philly hosted nearly twenty giveaways, ranging from Koins to cash to mystery prizes. Alongside these giveaways, there were also some special deals. There were discounts on upgrades and donator awards. A special award was handed out to all members who participated in the celebration of the anniversary. Overall, it was a wonderful day for all members, especially for those who won giveaways. Congratulations on three years, ForumKorner.Promotions
On the anniversary, @Philly decided to promote a few users. First of all, we saw that @Justice was promoted from his current position as moderator to that of a staff member. Congratulations, @"Justice". As well as this promotion, the member @Michael was promoted to moderator. Then, days later, he was promoted to staff. Congratulations, @"Michael". Each promotion was met with support from the community.Koin Change
ForumKorner's currency system, Koins, recently went through a change. @Philly posted a thread detailing this recent conversion. Previously, the exchange rate for Koins was 1,000 Koins per every $1. Now, with this recent update, every 1 Koins is worth $1. Therefore, 5 Koins are worth $5 and 20 Koins are worth $20. This isn't that big of a change, but it will definitely confuse some users who haven't yet discovered this change.Eight New Awards
The staff member @Michael made an official announcement of eight new awards. These new awards were suggested by the users @"Sector" and @"Astro". The new awards include Jackpot, Kudos King, Elite Upgrader, Forum Junkie, Post Junkie, Post Guru, Extreme Reporter, and K.R.E.A.M. To see the full list of awards and icons, click here.Possible Domain Change
Our beloved admin asked the community's opinion in poll this week. As many users may know, @Philly won a very nice domain in an auction, GamingForums.net. He, along with many users, feel it would be best to move onto this new domain. All of the current domains would forward to this new domain and everything would be the same, except for the name of the forum. However, he will only do so with support from the community. To vote in the poll, click here. This will be a big change for the site and would definitely increase traffic. We do not know what is going to happen officially, but it looks like the domain will be changed.Boyfriend by @Tristyn - Catch up on ForumKorner's latest drama, @God convinces his ex girlfriend @Tristyn to join the forum, where she then writes a detailed accusation of him cheating on her with the girl next door. With up to 30 people viewing at one point, and accumulating over 1000 views in 24 hours, this was the forum's hottest thread of the week. Is it a case of "once a cheater, always a cheater"? Check out the thread to get your gossip fix, and be sure to share your opinion on the situation.
Is Religion the root of all Evil? by @Curley - The question was raised in regard to religion being the source of the world's evil. @"Curley"'s thread sparked an intellectual discussion of whether or not religion really is the root of all evil. Many referred to human nature, power, and greed as being the dominant sources. Read more about the matter in the thread, and feel free to add your own input to the discussion.
Free GROUP! by @Philly - This week, ForumKorner's admin gave away the usergroup "Royalty" for free, as the previous owner (@"Teen") was permanently banned after sending abuse to him. @GOR managed to snag the group by being the first to post on the thread. @GOR is now looking for a designer to create him a new userbar. Be sure to congratulate him on his new group, and maybe even give him a helping hand to create his new userbar.
Family scared about my future... by @Difficult - After opening up to his family about his methods of making money online, @Difficult puts the ForumKorner marketplace and it's relation to our generation into perspective. He talks about how hard it is for older generations to comprehend the buying and selling of pixels online, and how crazy it is for people as young as 15 to have made thousands of dollars. Feel free to share your own experiences in his thread.
Best Userbar on this Site by @Eos - The userbars of ForumKorner are seen everywhere, and here they are up for discussion. Drop in and share with us your favorite userbar(s), past or present, and your reasons why.

Malaysia Flight 370 Update
Over the past month, officials have been desperately searching for a trace of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, but to no avail. Recently, though, it's been reported that an Australian navy ship carrying U.S. equipment has detected underwater pulses from the plane. Investigators are continuing to scour the Indian Ocean for any other signs of evidence, mainly continuing to listen for any other pulses from the aircraft. Up to fourteen planes and as many ships have been focusing on a single search area 1,400 miles northwest of Perth, Australia, covering 29,954 square miles of ocean. The plane has been missing since March 8th, 2014.
Fort Hood Shooting
On April 4th, 2014, a mass-shooting spree occurred across several buildings at the Fort Hood military base near Killeen, Texas. Four people including the gunman, 34-year-old Ivan Lopez, were killed, along with an additional sixteen victims who were injured. The 2009 Fort Hood Shooting, where thirteen others lost their lives and thirty were injured, has led investigators on an attempt to establish a possible connection between the two shootings. The injured victims were taken to Scott & White Memorial Hospital and Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, where they received further treatment.
Ukrainian Leaders blame Russia for Unrest
Recently, tensions between Russia and Ukraine have hit an all-time high. The U.S. has intimated that the Russian government has paid the Ukrainian protestors, an accusation that has not yet been addressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Senior U.S. defense officials fear that Putin may be trying to create a pretext for additional military action by secretly fueling unrest in eastern Ukraine. After a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry announced that he would meet with Russian, Ukrainian, and European officials within 10 days.
Volcanic Island Consumes Another off of Japan
According to NASA’s Earth Observatory, Nii-Jima island, a volcano which broke through the ocean’s surface last November, has recently merged with a nearby island formed from another volcano which last erupted 40 years ago. According to Japanese scientists, the new island was expected to last several years at its size in December. The “Pacific Ring of Fire,” the area in which the island sits, stretches from the coast of Chile, north to Alaska and Siberia, and then south to New Zealand. The newly formed island lies approximately 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo in the Ogasawara Islands.
Mozilla CEO Steps Down
Brendan Eich The chief executive of Mozilla, the company best known for its Firefox browser has stepped down following heavy criticism for his views and past donations to the "Proposition 8 campaign" which is opposed to same-sex marriage in California. A popular dating site named "OkCupid" greeted users using Firefox with a message that read "Mozilla's new CEO, Brendan Eich, is an opponent of equal rights for gay couples. We would therefore prefer that our users not use Mozilla software to access OkCupid." Since then the company has commented that they're happy Brendan Eich has stepped down.
Child Finds Xbox Security Flaw
A five-year-old boy worked out a security vulnerability earlier this week. Kristoffer Von Hassel, worked out that entering the wrong password into the account log-in screen would bring up a second password verification screen. He then discovered that if he simply pressed the space bar to fill up the password field, the system would let him in to his dad's account. Since finding this flaw, Kristoffer has been added to the list of recognized security researchers and has been gifted four free xbox games, $50, and a year-long subscription to Xbox Live.
Yahoo Issues Security Sitrep
As of March 31, Yahoo will encrypt all its platforms by default, implement additional security measures such as Perfect Forward Secrecy over the next few months, and work with partners to make sure the ecosystem is secure. HTTPS encryption also is enabled by default on the Yahoo home page and search queries running on it, as well as on most Yahoo properties. These issues were patched after a series of attacks began last October which resulted in Yahoo's servers being taken offline for several days in December. Also, in early January, security firm Fox-IT reported Yahoo was serving malvertisements, and on Jan. 30, Yahoo reported a coordinated effort to gain unauthorized access to Yahoo Mail accounts using data from a third-party database.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Sells 12 Million Copies
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has now sold over 12 million copies, making it one of the Xbox 360's most successful titles in history. In an interview with the Xbox Wire, Minecraft developer Mojang's business head Daniel Kaplan said when the studio originally thought about bringing the game to Xbox 360, they would have been happy selling only 1 million copies. Kaplan said one of the most repeated requests he hears from Xbox 360 owners is for bigger Minecraft worlds. He explained that bigger worlds require a guarantee that each Xbox 360 has a hard drive, and of course that is not possible. However, he teased, "Luckily on Xbox One, that's not an issue."
Microsoft Unveils Cortana Assistant For Windows Phone
Microsoft has unveiled a virtual assistant for Windows Phone handsets. The voice-controlled app, named Cortana, uses both the firm's search engine Bing and data stored on the handsets to make personalized recommendations and carry out tasks. Cortana replaces the earlier search function on smartphones running Microsoft's operating system. When launched from a pulsating button on the handset's start screen, it initially offers its own suggestion for the task the owner might want to carry out based on their location and past behavior. Mr Belfiore showed how Cortana could interact with specially adapted third-party apps. A request to see what a person had been up to saw Cortana launch Facebook and bring up the relevant friend's activity timeline. However, other parts of the presentation went less smoothly for Mr Belfiore. Cortana repeatedly failed to convert the weather forecast from Celsius to Kelvin, and also misunderstood a request to make a phone call.
