Foursquare will begin rolling out
daily deals from five partners —
LivingSocial, Gilt City, AT&T Interactive, BuyWithMe and Zozi — to users of its iPhone, Android and BlackBerry applications in the U.S., UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, starting Tuesday morning.
Foursquare is using check-in histories, time of day and location to target deals to app users — “targeting with social justification,” as the startup calls it.
All deals offered by partners will be imported into the Foursquare application experience. Deals will appear in Foursquare’s apps in real time, as they go live on each partner’s site.
Foursquare hopes to seamlessly highlight deals that will add value for existing users. “We want to focus on what we do well, while we delight our users with these great deals,” says Tristan Walker, Foursquare’s director of business development.
The just-released screenshots depict a Foursquare experience that smartly integrates deals in a way that its
10 million users could grow to appreciate. Deals are surfaced alongside Foursquare Specials in the Explore tab, called out as “Special Offers” and nearly matching merchant Specials in style and function.
At release, Foursquare users will be able to immediately purchase the deals surfaced in the Explore tab, but not necessarily redeem them at the time of purchase — as users can via
Groupon Now. We’re told, however, that the plan is to house real time, intra-day deals for immediate redemption in the future.
Cursory details of Foursquare’s
multiple deal site partnerships were first brought to light Monday.
Groupon is not yet listed among Foursquare’s partners, but the companies are in talks, we’ve confirmed.
Foursquare has disclosed that it is generating revenue from the deal partnerships, but the exact revenue share breakdown is not known at this time.
