Gif Tut Series [part 1]

Today I will be showing how to edit and save gif animations in photoshop CS5.

Lets begin by opening an already made gif, here is what ill use for this tutorial:

Now for starters there's a lot of unneeded space, as well as a pesky site watermark, crop it to only the needed part (the center strip)

Now as you can see it has a black background and is a bright magenta-pink, this is probably not the best color so lets change it.

Lets start by adding a new layer filled with a color of your choice:

step2b.jpg

Now set it to color in the blending mode drop-down menu:

step3dh.jpg

Now that your gifs been recolored you may want to make it blend in with a certain site, a good way to do this is called "faking transparency" this is done by making its bg the same color as the site.

In the case of this gif I made a sort of "mask" for example:

step4s.jpg

I made a linear gradient on the top and bottom (not overlapping the middle) that is the same color as HF's main content area #33.

Now to save your gif, don't worry about changing the layer order as the gif retains its layers as well as frame sequence when opened in Cs5.

Go to file>save for web and devices now make sure gif is selected then
save.
