Giving to the homeless.

Would you ever give a beggar change?
Walk by someone on the street with a sign, claiming they haven't eaten real food in days, and hand them food? How did you feel afterwards? How often have you shared something with a homeless person? Ever ended badly?

Most people I know, argue about why it's "unfair" for homeless to just sit and beg all day, meanwhile they have to go out and work jobs for money. Or how "when you give someone who is homeless money, they just spend it on drugs and alcohol".

Do you share the same beliefs as those people? if so, why?

If you ignore them, how does it make you feel to walk right past someone while trying not to make eye contact? You ever regret doing so?

I would give them $1 and send them to McDonalds. Eh, maybe I would give them $2.

I don't see the point in giving the homeless money, really. It's unfortunate that they're homeless but in reality it's not for no reason. Once a homeless man asked me for some money and I gave him three dollars, I walked by the spot an hour later and saw him drinking a bottle of beer.

So, it's better to just get them a nice meal instead of giving them money just for them to spend on their stupid ass addiction.

We have a duty to help our fellow creatures, even when they can't help themselves. Homelessness is a huge problem in our society, and we have to face it head on. Aside from buying a stranger a meal every once and awhile, we have to fight for infrastructure and reform in order to help these types of people in the long run.

I live in Orange County, where both the Hispanic and American culture collide. Although most Hispanics here live in poverty, it's hard to see one in the streets begging for money. Yes, you'll see them outside a Home Depot or on freeway exits selling fruits or roses and shit, but won't find them begging. Americans, on the other hand, are more than likely to be begging for money somehow. I mean, if hundreds of immigrants can maintain their family with a shitty job earning less than minimum wage, I'd expect Americans to do the same or better.

I usually buy them food like McDonalds etc.. something cheap just because it breaks my heart to see others suffer. I know if I was homeless I would want other to do the same.
This was larger but the protection made me re-type it and I refused.

I'm not a fan of giving money to people either. I don't even like giving money to friends and family for special occasions. I've handed out food and water plenty of times, bought a few coats, and a pair of shoes for someone.

The only reason I spent a little more on the coats and shoes is because I sort of formed relationships with them. Saw them everyday on my way to work, escalated to greeting, introductions, small talk, etc. When winter came I realized they didn't have any and used the little leftover money I had left to purchase them.

I don't just hand them money because it's more personable and meaningful for someone, a stranger even, to go out their way to help. Also a strong believer in karma; I may not know their background on why they are where they are today, and I'll probably never ask. However I don't have it in me to just walk by someone who is basically dying on the side of the road.

Its a case to case basis IMO. I knew someone who did it because they make more money than a minimum wage job. You have to judge each individual subject.

I would give them enough for some food on the dollar menu, but I would make sure they went there and got the food, otherwise I'd flip a table and hire a hitman. GG

If I have the extra few dollars, or some extra food. I don't see why not. It's a small gesture that could help someone out, and make their day.

I've given before. Its simple:

Only do it if you want to, and can afford to.

The system is fucked and none of us are doing anything about it other than contributing

I give food directly, gift cards to food places, or directions to a homeless shelter.

You can tell when they're faking when they refuse the food.

Well, most of the ones around where I live are usually just doing it for money. You can sit and watch them when they are done they will go get in their truck and drive away.

I would give them food, but I usually don't see them where I live.

No drug money tho

I'd rather ask them what they want from a restaurant or something and buy it for them, rather they go into the liquor store and waste the money.

I'd give them a few bucks, give them the benefit of the doubt that they'd spend it wisely

I hardly give someone who's homeless money. I live in Houston, so pretty much every single bridge you go under there's families sleeping behind the radiators there with shopping carts full of blankets and clothes.

Instead of giving money, I've taken the time out of my day multiple times to drive around the corner to McDonalds or a gas station and pick them up a bag of food. The reactions that I get when I do it just light up my world and make it something worth doing every day if I could.

I don't give them money because I don't want them getting into more harm with drugs and such. There have been times when I've given some cash to people with dogs because they tend to treat the dog better than themselves. (Everyone has to find happiness in something)
