Giving to the homeless.

People think the homeless person is only going to go buy drugs or alcohol is because most of the time it is true. Alot of homeless people have drug addiction problems, Here is my simple philosophy: (hard)Drugs = Poverty. That is just how it is,

but there are other reasons people become homeless. For example, not getting a job after leaving the military, not getting a job after college and being in debt because of student loans

Those people are the reason i give to the homeless, i see plenty of homeless people everyday (I live in NY) and here most of the people have the mentality of just keep on walking and ignore them, which for the most part i agree with due to the fact that there are some people that will help,

but it is good for everyone to help out once in a while. I personally give the homeless money (unless i can tell he/she is addicted to something, then i give food) and even if the homeless person that i gave money too goes and buys drugs it doesn't matter to me it is his choice and if he wants to ruin himself then he should be able too.

I almost always just walk past. I don't feel regret, because instead of begging, they can go and get a job like the rest of us. However, if I ever do help a homeless person, I would give them proper food, I wouldn't give them straight-up cash.

This is what I find somewhat corrupt in the human face, that people have to think about giving and even when they do its to make themselves feel better, it's selfish imo.

I ignore them, why because they shouldve stayed in school and got a fucking job. Its not my fault i can afford shit and have a job to buy my own shit
My friends and i personally like to buy 200$ worth of fast food places 10-15 $ Gift cards every few months and when we see a person in definite need we provide for them. We don't give cash because simply we don't trust them to spend it on necessaries. I've seen too many beggars spend all their "earnings" on beer. The faces they put on actually make me smile because I know I made an impact even if it's a little on the person.. This one time there was this beggar, he was completely desperate for a job, but denied every time because.. Appearance and stench. So me and my friends (Its 18-22 people BTW) decided to help him out on one condition - whatever job he gets he has to keep trying for promotions. We got him a hotel for 2 weeks and a suit from the thrift store and got it ironed (we aren't billionaires you know) within the first week he got a job. And his boss took over and helped him out by bringing him into her house. anyways he's assistant manager now and so far that's one of my greatest accomplishments to date. .. And they're getting married soon as of what I heard

As for @finest that was ignorant. It might not be your fault but sometimes it can't be helped. You don't know their life stories. They could've been abandoned, stranded, and other reasons I can't think of now.. But whatever man that's your opinion and I won't fret about it. Toodles

It's because you showed your personal life, and now people will leech off you until you're gone.

I wouldn't give them money, I'd give them a bag of meth to try and sell.

You never know there circumstance. You should never give a homeless person money. They could 1. Use it for drugs. 2. They could not even need it and use it as a side job (Which people do). This is why instead you buy them food or give them water.

I work hard for my money. Not my problem that homeless people got involved with drugs/alcohol, didn't stay in school, and didn't keep a legitimate job. I literally see homeless people in NYC all the time with signs that say "I'm not going to lie, I'm spending this money on booze and crack".

Sounds ignorant, but whatever, I'm an ignorant person.

@Painkiller Not every homeless person didn't go to school because they didn't want to.

I would definitely give money. I would buy a $20 giftcard to the local farmers market that way it's not wasted on shit they don't need.

To be honest, if they spend it on drugs and alcohol, that's their choice, if they enjoy it, then they are just as greatful.

The only thng I give to the homeless is food. 90% of the time money goes right to their vices.

I once bought a homeless guy an All-Star Breakfast from Waffle House. He approached me as I was leaving and asked for money. So I took him inside and got him anything he wanted on the menu.
