Goalkeeping

Hey guys, so some of you may know that I am a goalkeeper. I've been a keeper for about 2 years now & I play for a team. I do believe I am a good keeper, I know how to dive, kick & I have some pretty sick gloves & gear which cost me about $300 altogether.

I just have a problem, I am extremely bad with my grip. Is there any way I can get better with it? Let's just say I need to learn this as soon as possible because the season starts soon and I am on the starting line-up and don't want to get kicked off.

Let's also say the reason I need to learn how to have good grip is well.. I was in goals and a person took a free kick. It went to the top left and I dived as high as I can and I saved it. It was in my hands and the ball slipped out and went into the goal.

I was substituted instantly, and it was the 79th minute and the other team won 2-1 because of my mistake. You will never understand how embarrassed I was, and also when the ball is high in the air and when I'd go to catch it, it would slip out of my hands but I would always get back to it. It's hard training to have good grip in my opinion, and I really need help.

I used to play as a keeper, had a good run but an injury ruined it.I play Right back now and nice to see some passionate footballers on the forum. Well based on your issue, I don't really think gloves can help the grip at the moment but have you really tried working on your wrist ability? Most of the time the ball goes it because the wrist isnt firm and "fondles" the whole hand when the ball hits the palm.
Question to you , what boots would you recommend for a keeper?was never really sure

Get a dumbbell (I'd start with 25 lbs./12kg but entirely up to you/your ability), hold it with one hand and move you hand in full range of motion forward and backward. This will build wrist and grip strength.

The gloves help quite a lot but I really need to work on my wrist ability. The boots I use are hyper venoms.

I'm going out to buy the dumbbells today, thanks man.

I've played striker my entire life but just try to increase your strength and also practice catching balls as much as possible. That's weird that you got subbed out though, Ive played at some of the highest levels where I live and have never really seen a team sub out there goalie unless it gets to like 5-0

I'm on the starting 11, I was extremely angry but I knew why. I cost it for the team but I haven't really taken much thought into this until that particular game. I'm great with diving and kicking, it's just grip. :/ Good to see a few football players here.

Yeah my high school season just ended and we went 27-1 and won the state championship and I was a captain on the team and it was the second time ever and the second time in 2 years we won the state championship. Really our only weak link was our keeper, but he was still pretty good.

Wow man, you must've been quite the goal-scorer. I wish I could've been your keeper, wouldn't have conceded any goals ;). Congratulations though, man. That's sick! I'm also the captain for our team.

I was actually a right midfielder due to two All-State forwards we have, one of which is 3rd all time in our school's history for goals. But I still had plenty of goals and a LOT of assists.

I'm just picturing the commentary. MICHAEL BOOTS IT UP ON THE 90TH MINUTE, ENGLAND VS BRAZIL FOR THE WORLD CUP, 1 ALL! GREED TAKES POSSESSION WITH THE HEADER, OUTRUNS THE DEFENCE, STEPS OVER LIONEL MESSI HE IS NOW ONE ON ONE WITH THE KEEPER, WITH AN OUTSIDE FOOT THE BALL CURVES TO THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE GOAL

*Whole stadium quiet*

THE GOAL KEEPER DIVES AND HE MISSES, IT IS 2-1 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

I'm weird, I know.

Hypervenoms for a goalkeeper? Those boots are more for dribbling and shots though,I was considering the Tiempos or Adidas pro 11 as I have to revert for a season next year

I didn't buy the boots, coach told me to use them. The Tiempos are really nice in my opinion.

Your coach suggested hypervenoms for a keeper, odd LOL
And yea I tried out the tiempos of my friend and they were really comfortable and kind of "absorbed" the impact from the ball when taking a shot. Looking to get the stealth tiempos since they're cheap without me paying VAT

Those are probably the ones you want since they advertise grip but don't take my word for it as I've never tried them out.

I'll purchase them, test them and get back to you.

The fact that you were substituted for a single mistake sucks. Good luck with your career.
