What is a Trojan and how to protect you against them: There are many ways to protect yourself against the threats of a Trojan. The main one is to get updated anti-virus software to scan the files that you download. A good anti-virus package will disable most threats but sometimes there will not be an update to the software, you will have to update the anti-virus yourself to keep current with the threats today, that are out there.

I also recommend that you scan your computer weekly to prevent accidently infecting your computer with such software. This will help to protect you, if you use your computer for online banking and many other things such as online shopping.

What is a piece of spyware and how can I protect myself against it: What is spyware? It’s basically fake anti-virus software that makes you think you are infected. There are many different variants that are on the internet. These range from rogue websites such as fake anti-virus software to fake webpages, that make you think you’re infected when you actually are not infected with a virus.

A good way to prevent this is to get an add-on to your web browser called no-script. This will stop all background files images and the main bits of a website from loading and tell you if it’s a threat.

What is a piece of Malware and how can I protect myself against it: Malware is the real nasty thing that will take control of your computer and allow an attacker to do whatever they want to your computer, from stealing passwords to downloading files and even viewing your screen and webcam without you knowing. A good way to prevent this is to cover the webcam with a piece of blue-tac when you’re not using it. This will stop your face appearing online without you knowing.

I also recommend that you keep your anti-virus updated or download a programme called (Malware Bytes Anti-Malware). This will get rid of all infected files, and tell you to remove them after you scan them which is more of an effective programme than most anti-virus software.

Theft of personal Information & Confidential Information Fraud: Fraud is a big issue now a-days most people get a telephone call at least once a day or a week asking for such personal information even the spam that arrives in your inbox can sometimes contain fraud banks and mainstream shops do not asking for bank account numbers, cvv codes or any other type of information located within the card, the most that they ask for is your first-name and last-name because they already do have records of all that information. How you can protect yourself against this type of fraud is to remain vigilant when going onto websites make sure they are the websites you expected to see and make sure if it’s a bank website that is had a little padlock next to the url this would mean that the website is secure unlike the fake websites that do not have this type of protection because it is very expensive to purchase and most fraudsters don’t actually want to go to the trouble.

Backing up files & Strong Passwords:
You should always keep a backup copy of your important computer files these could be hosted on a drop box account or even a external hard drive this will ensure that when you are hacked that none of your important files are lost to hackers.

Keeping a strong password is difficult because most people use pets names and even important places to them hackers love weak passwords it’s like inviting them into your home with a key and saying come on inside and steal some stuff I won’t call the police.

Keeping a strong password is easy just add a few numbers to the end of your password for example hello91231 try to replace the letters with numbers like h31101231* and add a random character from the keyboard to make it a more strong password.
