Gun Laws

Chicago has the strongest gun laws in the United States. Yet, there has been 449 school age children shot this year and 62 school age children murdered just this past year.

I am not sure why you don't ever hear about this in the media. I don't know if it is because it would make gun control laws look bad or if it was because most of the kids who were shot and killed were minorities.

Discuss?

EDIT: About 1 week ago the federal appeals court said that these restrictions were unconstitutional and gave Illinois 180 days to change its laws or appeal the decision. Gun laws in Illinois

The key here is "in the United States". There are no "strict" gun laws in the United States. If you compare it to the UK or Japan they have almost NO MURDERS FROM GUNS. 10 in Japan and 35 in the UK. All 10 of the murders in Japan were from 1 of the 300 hunting rifle licenseses.

Every country that has strict gun laws or gun bans also has a much higher VIOLENT crime rate than the United States.

These criminals realize that there will be no law-abiding citizens with guns to stop them so they go and do whatever they want.

Violent crime that does not cause death. I'd rather be assaulted with a baseball bat and not die than be shot with a gun and die.

EDIT:
In 1989 Japan experienced 1.3 robberies per 100,000 population, compared with 48.6 for West Germany, 65.8 for United Kingdom, and 233.0 for the United States; and it experienced 1.1 murder per 100,000 population, compared with 3.9 for West Germany, 1.03 for England and Wales, and 8.7 for the United States that same year.[4] Japanese authorities also solve a high percentage of robbery cases (75.9%, compared with 43.8% for West Germany, 26.5% for Britain, and 26.0% for the United States) and homicide cases (95.9% , compared with 94.4% for Germany, 78.0% for U.K., and 68.3% for the United States).

I rather not be a victim of any crime than become a victim. And the chances are that there will be more victims if guns become illegal. Simple as that.

You should read the last post on your other thread. The one about the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Honestly, the key thing here is to stop worrying about gun laws and shit when we should start becoming better as a society. Start teaching people the value of life and to have morals.

I don't know, first the government or whatever has to get rid of all the gangs and stuff and then be strict on the gun laws, and that would take many years.

Let's take a look at history:

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. Subsequently, from 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, deprived of the means to defend themselves, were rounded up and killed.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. Then, from 1929 to 1953, approximately 20 million dissidents were rounded up and killed.

In 1938 Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945 over 13 million Jews, gypsies, homosexuals, mentally ill, union leaders, Catholics and others, unable to fire a shot in protest, were rounded up and killed.

In 1935, China established gun control. Subsequently, between 1948 and 1952, over 20 million dissidents were rounded up and killed.

In 1956, Cambodia enshrined gun control. In just two years (1975-1977) over one million "educated" people were rounded up and killed.

In 1964, Guatemala locked in gun control. From 1964 to 1981, over 100,000 Mayan Indians were rounded up and killed as a result of their inability to defend themselves.

In 1970, Uganda embraced gun control. Over the next nine years over 300,000 Christians were rounded up and killed.

Over 56 million people have died because of gun control in the last century...

TO DISARM THE PEOPLE IS THE BEST AND MOST EFFECTUAL WAY TO ENSLAVE THEM

All of those countries were run by either a dictator or had a military lead government. You did list any bans of guns in modern countries with democracies(Japan, England, Germany[Modern Germany]).

Guns will not protect anyone from a tank, a plane, or a nuke.

Takes people to use all of those. The military is us. The people that fight our wars aren't the congressman and such.

History does tend to repeat itself and in my opinion if you wanna kill someone with a gun even if there is a gun ban u still could get our hands on a gun if you really want it badly therefore there is nothing you really can do also the population difference in countries is why America has much More killings then others plus other things besides guns affect why people kill in the first place it only takes a jobless man with a family losing his home with a gun to show what happens when man is put in a corner we still have animal instincts and thats were violence comes in. I will not allow private interests to disarm me.
I will not allow a tyrannical government to disarm me.
I will not allow a criminal to do harm to myself or that of which I hold dear.
