There is nothing to stop you from doing that, in fact, I encourage it.
These guidelines are only to help those creating graphics on the forum, to be referred to when setting up their canvas.

Sorry for posting on this old thread, but could you change the Hex Code for the dark theme?
The correct hex code is #232323, it's a small difference but it is certainly noticable when I'm designing something.
