So basically my idea is that users go to the section and post problems on their homework they do not understand and other users (myself especially) do their best to help them.

I think it's a good idea. What do you think?

Well this is 2010 now.

Serious:

Now that we're considered competing and our computing/programming sections are pretty much dead, this would be better.

I'd rather this have a section of it's own and be stand-alone so it sticks out.

I doubt that it'd receive a lot of positive traffic.

Yea, you could just try it out and leave it there for a month. Then if you see that it doesn't get much activity you can just get rid of it.

Does it really need a bunch of sections? Maybe if it gets more active it could use some.

But if you do need sections:
  • English
  • Science
  • Math
  • Foreign Language
  • Other
