So I'm thinking about writing an ebook or perhaps a series of ebooks.
The thing is, I don't know anything about the sale, distribution, or security of them.

How do I keep them from being leaked? Do I sell it as a file or keep it all browser based?

If anyone with experience can help me out that'd be appreciated, thanks.

@krish pls

Sell a limited amount of copies, that lowers the chance of it being leaked.

I believe certain file sharing websites have like passwords that can be given out in order to download the .zip or .txt or whatever format you'd have it in.

So maybe keep a list of all your subsribers/buyers and make it an online-only read or something? Change the password to the file on a monthly basis and re-send out the password? I don't think there's really any way of it not getting leaked. It always seems to happen without legal action being used against anyone. I guess just don't release a ton of copies. Narrow it down to 5-15 maximum buyable copies? Put some kind of copyright on it, if it's that valuable? It would maybe scare people into not releasing it to friends or whomever for free.

Personally, I would keep it browser based. Maybe a .pdf like this: http://www.forumkorner.com/Verified.pdf (For me, it doesn't force-download. It just views it directly in the window.)

I just realized Tumblr blogs can be password protected. So maybe have a buyable password to the blog and have ONLY the eBook listed on that tumblr blog? Change the password to the blog once every 4 weeks.

All books get leaked no matter what, I would tell you how to sell and stuff but too lazy. Good luck with this.

to know who leaked your ebook simply lock the book with password of every copy you sell with the user UID (Buyer UID)

You could keep it browser based and disable the option to right click so no one can save it.

You know how many eBooks say that they'll pursue legal action if the eBook is leaked and are still leaked? That would barely help. Many people leak eBooks without fear of repercussions.

OT: You could sell a .txt file on an automatic payment site and inside it telling the person to PM you with payment details. Then, give them a copy of the eBook with the password being their UID and including a link to their profile in the eBook copy itself. When the eBook is leaked, you'll know who leaked it so you can handle it.

Nah, it's OTF NuNu but I am black. I'll PM you proof when I can if you want lmao.

Just to avoid a completely offtopic post, you could make an eBook using docs.google.com too. It's an easy way to save eBooks and then edit them fast when you need to change the profile link for someone's copy.
