But I always get Americans/Canadians etc calling me 'British' which is the whole of the UK, including the Irish, the Welsh and the Scottish.

Also why do so many Americans hate on the Britons?

Yeah, it works both ways, but most of the time all the brits i meet on vacation are cool. From what i hear french people are assholes, but i'm not sure.

Well, I have never heard of your particular situation but I do know what you mean. They are generalizing all of the UK as British. I'm Canadian, would that make me British too? Canada started off as a British colony.

Maybe they're jealous because they don't have your specific accent? Who knows.
