A hotel in Ibiza is exploiting the fact that you don’t need to have a computer or even a smartphone to check in on Facebook and express your Likes.
As the video above explains, Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel is outfitted with pillars that read RFID-enabled bracelets. Guests can check in, take pictures or post a status update, depending on where they’re positioned at the hotel and what pillar is offered. Such pillars are at the beach, the pool and on the dancefloor. The object: “Make all your Facebook friends jealous.”
Mixing RFID and Facebook seems to be a phenomenon that’s happening outside of the U.S. A Coca-Cola amusement park in Israel offered a program in summer 2010 that let attendees Like certain attractions using RFID bracelets, and Renault offered similar technology at the Amsterdam Auto Show in April.
