Dealing Safely

Unfortunately, in today's society it is nearly impossible to assure a deal or sale will go through 100% safely with both parties ending up completely satisfied—whether it be online or in real life. There are, however, information and tips that can be useful when attempting to deal or sell to strive for downright satisfaction. The honest truth when dealing is the only sure fire way to deal 100% safely is to not deal at all. Of course, you know that, so let's get back on track. The first tip is knowing who you are dealing.

Studying your seller or consumer.
There is nothing more important then knowing the person that you are attempting to deal with. There are no sure ways to prove one's legitimacy, however, there are several ways that can help aid in earning one's trust. The number one source of finding such information is the use of vouch threads (which can be found here). Before continuing, I would like to stress that a user's reputation points should have no bearing on their legitimacy. Reputation is strictly one's opinion on another user or users, though some users may choose to vouch via the reputation system.

Knowing how a vouch thread works is key before attempting to base a user's legitimacy off of a measly thread. Vouch threads are intended to be used for sellers, as well as consumers, at which other users that have dealt with the particular users can vouch for their product, service, or overall legitimacy. In order to leave a vouch for a user, you absolutely must complete a successful deal with the user first. Failure to do so will result in your vouch being fraudulent, at which you can be punished for accordingly.

Now that you more of an understanding of a vouch thread, reading them accurately is also very important. You do not want to just skim through a vouch thread. You should plan on reading every single vouch throughly and fully grasp the point the voucher is attempting to portray. Take in every detail about the user being vouched for. Save yourself the hassle and downright embarrassment of potentially being scammed and read every last word. The more you know about the user's dealing past the the better. Also, only bother looking at vouches from Forum Korner. Vouches on any other forum board are irrelevant.

Using a middleman.
Utilization of a middleman is one of the most common practices in effort to deal safely. For those of you that are unfamiliar with a middleman, a middleman is a person who accepts the products and payments from both parties, and then distributes the products and payments to both parties once they have successfully received both party's agreed fair share in accordance to their transaction. By doing this, it allows the seller to receive their revenue and the consumer to receive their product(s). Using a middleman is not a sure way to deal safely because there has been cases of fraudulent middlemen in which the middleman takes the items of both parties and keep them for him or herself. Choose a middleman with care.

It was mildly time consuming, however, it was not done over night. Stay frosty, my friend.

RE: Jason's Introduction to the Marketplace

This is really nice, though you should add some more commonly used slang words:
C/O - Current Offer
BIN - Buy It Now
S/O - Starting Offer

You should also teach the difference between OG and Semi-OG.
New kids need to learn this!

Outstanding post. Honestly, I think this should be a sticky, and should be mandatory to read, before participating in any marketplace threads. Good work, @Jason

I have to agree with this to an extent. I enjoy typing, I made a project about forums at college in one to two days. I might make some more when I'm in college next. Not to sure what I should do my next one on though. Perhaps you should put a spoiler link in for the Slang and Acronyms, etc. So the thread is a tad shorter and more presentable. Either way, it's helpful for newer members.

If you're interested in a custom thread design, I'd be more than happy to help. Otherwise it seems like you've got it all covered!

I'm almost certain he won't want one off them. Not suggestion you're bad at them. Just saying they look tacky and cheesy, unless you're trying to sell a product perhaps. But even then I don't think they do their job as perceived. He may want a header or something to make it look more fancy. I doubt it though.

That's true, they do tend to look cheesy / tacky. I only offered him one because I'd like to help but I don't know much about the marketplace so that's all I could really offer. I could provide some nice dividers or something if he wanted but other than that I don't really have much to offer.

RE: Jason's Introduction to the Marketplace

I think some thin and not over edited dividers would make the thread look more unique. Perhaps try creating some to see how they look, make them the size of the letter 'f' so they don't fill up to much space. He may try them out.

I should finally have time this weekend to edit, revamp, and add more detailed information to this thread. I have been slacking and have considered giving this thread up to a fellow user. We will see.
