One of the new features of the iPad 2 is its ability to do video chat courtesy of the cameras — reviewed by some as “not-so-quality†cameras, almost identical to the iPod Touch 4G’s — but still good enough to FaceTime and to PhotoBooth.
iPad 2, using the “same camera quality†of the iPod Touch, is one of the reasons why some tech experts believe that the success of the iPad 2 (and the iPhone) will affect the sales of the iPod Touch, dubbed by some as the mini iPad due to identical features, only smaller. Surprisingly, 2011 is the 10th year of the iPod in the market, but for Apple, “2011 is the year of the iPad 2.â€
The cheapest iPod Touch 4G sports a tag price of $229, which is $270 less-expensive than the cheapest iPad 2 model, the 16GB WiFi only. Apparently, gadgets customers today prefer the larger screen size of the iPad, due to the popularity of websites and internet activities like video streaming, and reading news. Plus, all iPod Touch features like iTunes songs and digital music filing are also supported by the new iPad.
So the question now is, can the iPod Touch survive the popularity of the iPad 2? To get a quick answer, ask Apple’s competitors, like Samsung. The Korean-based company is scheduled to sell two new devices, the Samsung Galaxy Player 4, and Galaxy Player 5 — two Android-powered devices that will work like the iPod Touch — listening to music, video chat, playing games, and no carrier contract. If the iPod Touch is losing popularity, then what’s with the new competitor?
iPod Touch’s portability, and its less expensive asking prices will still attract buyers, but that doesn’t mean that it will stay forever. Yup, the iPod Touch will die soon, but iPad 2 and the iPhone are not the only devices to blame, we can include the Android operating system and its manufacturing partners.
