The forum will never switch over to IPB, as to the chat not being implemented that is so the forum doesn't lose activity by people posting in the chat.
A chat box is a great idea that has been suggested many times already, but I do not feel a blog or status update would work well. We do not want to be facebookV2
I mean no offense but you can't just immediately join a forum and start suggesting huge changes. You obviously just need to get used to MyBB; it is a beautiful forum platform with endless possibilities regarding plugins and themes.
IPBoard's code is messy and unorganized and is full of bugs. MyBB is a community open-source forum platform that is free on the contrary of the expensive IPBoard.
Chatbox is one of the most useless features that can be added to forums. Forum =/= chatbox. The whole purpose of a forum is public (threads / posts) or private (private messages) discussion. Everything else above that isn't forum related.
Same for blogs - if you want a blog solution(s) use a (micro)blogging services. Vbulletin added a blog, usegroups (pages, discussions) and other social features and ended up with 40% of useless stuff that is disabled / removed.
