Is China's "one child" policy sensible?

for me its Yes, overpopulation is a great problem facing the world. China's "one child" policy is a rather strict control, but it is sensible. The world is strained in terms of population and it is a great danger facing civilization. Some research that I have come across states that if a female child is born in China, the family will kill or abandon it because it is only boys that these families desire. I don't understand why a government would have control over such basic human rights as reproduction.

I think that the idea is a good one but its caused a lot of bad things to happen. I think they should stop the one child policy because many female babies are being killed and only the rich can have a second child. That doesn't seem very fair to the poor.

yes this policy is a real good.and china has overcome with the problem of over population through this policy.i think in India also they should implement such policy as we are nearing to population explosion.we need to raise consciousness of illiterate people as they have more number of child.if any such policy is implemented in India we will surely see the beginning of new era.

i agree, i wish all country's had a type of limit to people per square mile so they would stop over-population like were seeing in some places of the world, if girls are being killed for it, its honestly a win-loose type of situation, It's Not hard to see that the main countrys are over populated,
i know some places in the world people have kids so they have workers on family farms and such.

and if you didnt understand from my post, I completely agree with the law

Its the start of an interesting idea to manage the future, but certainly it has resulted in many problems. I think that an alternative method may have been better.

I am not agree with this policy..If we look at the ugly part it will result in increase in the level of abortion of thousands of innocent babies..It is against human right...

I guess this is the best policy as their population is increasing day by day but still you can't force anybody all you can do is tell them the fact but still rich people can take child more then one or two also they can adopt child because they can take care of them.

The 1 child policy is really sensible. It helps the country's economy... But it would be horrible if the people ended up deciding on aborting the second child or the next. If they strictly enforce one child policy, I would suggest that ligation or vasectomy done as well to couples.

While 1 child policy have proven able to control over population, but there are some disadvantages to.

I have read that the 1 child policy have cause many parents making gender selection by aborting the female fetus because many of teh parents want male child. This has cause the population of male have overcome the population of female.

It depend how we see it. It might be good or it might be not.

i think it is good because it helps to control population growth alot and other problems that occur due to it.

what would you suggest for as an alternative method?i can't think of anything else.it was the best way.in today's world both girls and boys are equal and it really doesn't matter to have a girl kid or a boy.

I think a little differently, which some people might find a little idiotic. First of all, I think the growth in population does not affect the lives of others, in no way. You just need to know how to use the strength of a population. The resources to live a good life will automatically be availed, if you just know how to take advantage of the population you have. I hope those who think deeply would understand what I am trying to say. Comment on this one if anyone of you disagrees.

I think it's perfectly sensible, seeing as China has a really large population.

Yeah, I also think it's a good idea because there are way too many people in China already so I think everyone should only be limited to 1 child.

China has the most people since 2th century. As you know China capital city like Chang-an in 2th century bigger than Rome in peak era 4 times (Chang-an has population about 4.9 Million in Hun wudi emperor). It can't be help as China has massive population.
