Is having widespread advertising good for a society?

It seems like there is constant advertisement everywhere I look. But, is it really good for society? Advertisement has grown to be a billion dollar industry. It helps companies sell their products. But I think it makes people want too many things. Children are very open to advertisement, instead of making up their own minds. It seems like there is just too much advertising these days. But, it's not like advertisement is forced on people. I don't know.What do you think on this mates?
