Title?

Is parenthood a right or a privilege?

I think that it is a privilege, being a parent requires tons of responsibility, you need to know things that other may not know.

You just need skills that some other people, just are not fit for it. Taking care of a child is not easy in my opinion, I think we can all agree on that.

I believe that it's a privilege, not everybody can be a parent, just because you give birth or pay child support doesn't mean you're a "parent"

My "father" speaks to me once every two years and has told me he'll never help me pay for college, I don't consider him a part of the family at all. Being a parent means you're going to be there for your kid and help them through whatever they need in life instead of completely forgetting them or going out clubbing.
Something that really ticks me off though is when a hook-up leads to someone getting pregnant, the woman wants to keep it and then the guy is completely out and won't have anything to do with the child. I don't see how someone can be like that and completely ditch a kid when they were the idiot.

It's obviously hard to be a parent, you've got to have patience and a lot of time management, along with a somewhat sustainable source of income and the dedication to be a good one. In my opinion, if you can't look after a pet, then you can't look after a child.

Parenthood is a privilege, having a child can just be a stupid mistake of yours. All should be taken into consideration before having sex. I read about some girl who gave birth a school bathroom. The kid was crying so she decided to strangle it and leave it in there, then return to class as if nothing had happened.

Parenthood is a right unless you can't produce whether you like it or not. Don't get being a parent and being a good parent confused, they are two very different things. With that said I don't think you should have a kid if you aren't responsible, but there is no way that I can stop someone from having a kid.

@Skunk how is a right? Should we just go give random people a baby? People that are abusive, mentally and physically? Do they have the right to have their own child? What if someone abuses their child? Do they have the right revoked?

Its a privilege.

You don't give people babies, they give birth to them. I didn't say that that right couldn't be revoked, but they are innocent until proven guilty.

Being a parent is a privilege. If you hurt your kid, treat him/her wrong, you do not deserve to be their parent.

Neither, it's a responsibility.
