Guys tell me what you think! Do you think Religion is good for the world. I mean I think it can be bad also. I think its good to think about the peace and everyone gets along, but that isn't very true!

Just share what you think.

Please be honest on your posts.

I believe religion gives people a sense if self worth. It helps people not cross the the line because of their fear of sin. I love that religion is here.

No: It gives everyone a peace of mind so they don't worry about what's going to end up happening to them; on the other hand thanks to religion crime rates and other "things" that puts us in danger has been increasing. I rather have people going insane or self harming rather than shooting others etc...

@OTF how is that a good thing? People not sinning out of fear? It's evil.

You should fear God. The powers he's capable of are infinite. I fear him myself. It even says in the bible to fear him.

@Leader well you have to consider that Christians are the most populous religious denomination, so its only likely that they would have the highest incarcerated number.
@OTF don't believe something just because a group of iron age peasants said it was divine truth. The Bible is most likely a work of intimidation that the Jews created in order to have control over their people and used it as a threat to their enemies.

That doesn't matter. The demographics still don't match up. Plus, @"500"'s claim was that religion stopped crime, which is blatantly untrue.

Oops, when I said stopped crime and make peace I was talking about back then (when the bible was invented, I was thinking about my thread in my Evolve Group why the bible was invented).

Yes I know its untrue. Religion doesn't stop you from doing anything. People only claim religion helps with morals because then Christians can fall back on something when they criticize atheists for being immoral because they have no set of moral laws.
But only idiots make that argument

Doesn't sound like someone who is "all loving" or someone you should worship. Lmao.

God doesn't stop rape, murder, disease or famine. So if he's got infinite power, he either doesn't care or doesn't exist. Pick one, @OTF

You misunderstood the meaning of Fear. I mysekf dont believe in religion. I think its a form of escapism.

@Fireworks explain how I don't understand the concept of fear in this context. Don't just point something out and not elaborate.

Basically in this sense the word Fear is a form of respect. Its common for those of a religious belief to have a "Fear" of god. Or in other words a healthy amount of respect.

Fear and respect are far different. They are not the same. They shouldn't be linked like they are in the bible. That's wrong, and "bully-like."

God is a bully. He threatens those who are skeptical, logical and rational with eternal damnation. It makes no sense. The whole bible, and the concept
of god has human fingerprints all over it. No god who floods his own earth and children (noahs ark) is worthy of worship. It's all made up to control people. It's obvious to any intelligent being; One with common sense and analytical virtues.

I wouldn't call it respect at all. The idea of a god threatens you with an eternity of torture and hellfire. That's absolutely disgusting for anyone to believe, let alone try and defend.

Im not defending it. Im just telling you what it means in terms of religion. You have to keep in mind that with religion you cant take everything at facevalue. Words all have deeper meanings and in some cases, like the word Fear, the meanings change completely.

Also your generalizing. Are we talking about just Christianity or religion as a belief?
