Just got my macbook, what are some must have apps for it?

I just got my macbook in the mail yesterday, this is my first personal MacBook, and I love it, it is so simple and beautifully designed!
Currently running Yosemite on it, I only have:smcFanControl, Skype, and firefox, haven't really installed anything on it yet since I don't really have any knowledge on OS X.
My only real complaint is that the control key doesn't let you copy and paste, it feels awkward using the command key, but I think I will end up getting used to it.

What are some must haves? Also is there any app that allows me to change my lock screen to something more customized?

Thanks.

caffeine
hocus focus
cloud.ly
live wallpaper
textwrangler
ccleaner

those are the ones I use for miscellaneous.

mines max, 16gb ram, it runs fine. I upgraded my macbook a lot.
