I couldn't find a thread on this, so here we go.
What are your guys' opinions on Marijuana? Should it be legalized? If so, for medical use only, or recreational use as well?
I am in full support of the legalization of Marijuana for recreational, and medical usage.
Here's why.
- The legalization of marijuana helps states out a lot, financially. In just two months of Marijuana being legal in Colorado, the state made 6.17 million dollars in tax revenue. This tax money can go towards many beneficial things, such as schooling, which is what Colorado is currently using much of the tax revenue on.
- Jobs. The marijuana industry has provided over 7,500 jobs in Colorado so far.
- Minorities are arrested for Marijuana use disproportionately, when compared to Caucasians. I'm not even going to list the stats, but if you'd like to see some, click here, http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...ackwhite-marijuana-arrest-gap-in-nine-charts/
- Lets compare Alcohol, and Tobacco to Marijuana. Alcohol and Tobacco use cause many deaths, while Marijuana doesn't cause any. If these are legal, how come Marijuana isn't?
- Many people argue Marijuana is a "gateway drug". I would like to rebut this. I myself have smoked marijuana for 3 years, and not once has it ever made me want to delve into trying other, more hardcore drugs. People don't just smoke marijuana, and the next day, they're smoking crystal meth. That just doesn't happen. If someone is smoking crystal meth, that's there own fault, and it would have happened with or without the use of marijuana.
- People also argue that marijuana makes someone lazy. "Marijuana will cause people to drop out of school", or "People who smoke marijuana are less likely to get a job", are common arguments against the legalization of marijuana. Again, I'd like to rebut this. Smoking marijuana hasn't affected my grades, or anything of the sort. I get honors every quarter, with ease. If someone is lazy, you can't blame it on their marijuana use. If someone drops out of school, or can't get a job, blaming it on marijuana is pathetic.
- Marijuana being illegal hasn't stopped America's youth from trying the drug. In fact, the numbers of teens smoking marijuana is only rising.
- People also argue that the legalization of marijuana will cause more crime. Simply put, this is not true. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/17/marijuana-crime-denver_n_5595742.html
Polls show that nearly 75% of Americans view the legalization of Marijuana nationwide inevitable. Why are we delaying what's bound to happen?

Back in the 60's, marijuana legalization was affiliated with hippies, as a movement that they started. This has made many people look down upon marijuana. The times have changed, and we have to realize that. The movement has changed, and now, regular, successful people support the legalization of marijuana. Now, people are providing legitimate statistics that prove why marijuana should be legal. This can't be overlooked forever, and marijuana
will, inevitably become legal, nationwide.
