I'm just wondering whether or not you have to make your own videos, or can you just 'borrow' someone else's, upload it onto your youtube account, get views, and get paid?

It depends on how many points you get per video that you view. Not sure on what the range is. But you need 1000 points for $0.30. They have a shop which tells you the amount of points that you need, and their respective rewards. Hope this helps.
 
I got a button for monetizing using google adsense but its really slow
