Media Censorship

I'm sure you've all listened to a song you downloaded or heard on the radio that had a couple of cuss words censored out. Most of the time, it's edited to maintain the rhythm of the song but at other times, it really destroys the flow and it's really a shame.

My point here is to ask you all; do you think lyrical censorship is essential? My reasoning is as follows. If you've chosen to listen to the song or tune into that specific radio station, you surely have an idea, if not know perfectly well, what kind of music and lyrics you're going to hear. Having said that, when you choose to listen to a song, you make the conscious decision of listening to those cuss words. And with that, I don't see a reason why record companies and radio stations have to censor their content.

I understand that children are just as vulnerable to hear these songs but isn't it a role on the parent's behalf to censor their kids' music library?

What's you opinion on the matter? Do you think censorship is essential? Why or why not.

Censorship in my opinion is a load of balls, because when you get older your just gonna know the words, so i don't see why you can't hear them over the radio, everyone uses bad language once in there life.

I don't think the censorship is needed at all. It really destroys some of the songs and it isn't really effective. I am pretty sure anyone who ever heard a swear word in their life, can tell what is being censored out. Radio isn't the big concern, kids are able to have access to the internet where the worst of it his. I think if they can handle the internet, they can handle the radio. Kids hear this kind of talk at there school sometimes so is it really bad to hear 1 bad word on the radio?

True but the point is to put off the introduction of these words until the individual has reached an age that he can make an educated decision about whether to use them or not, or better yet, how to use them efficiently. Chances are, if you ask kids why they swear the way they do, they'll response will be something along the lines of 'It's because that's how all of my friends speak'. However, when you're an adult, you use these cuss words to stress a point.

We'll some elementary schools, if not all, punish foul language as well.

Not all adults swear to stress a point, that may just be you. A large percentage of America swears because they are ignorant and can't think of a better word to take the place of a swear word.

On topic:

In my opinion media censorship (of all types) is wrong. I can understand where the people censoring the music are coming from, but it does screw the whole song up.

And don't you think that if they would have put off learning those cuss words for a little while longer, it would have given them sufficient time to introduce a better vocabulary to replace the swear words.

And when I said adults, I meant it in the full sense of the word. Imho, just because you're over 21 doesn't automatically mean you're an adult. By law, certainyl, but you have to act mature too.

lyrical censorship is a burden, if censoring a song brings good thoughts to the anyon then i believe they have sadly lost there minds. censorship of songs does nothing but distort my outlook on newer music i hear on the radio.

I thought you were referring to all adults. My bad.
