It drops support for a lot of things required for a lot of applications to run.

Lol. You guys have no idea what you are talking about. Windows 8 is a W7 but needs less memory to run, I tested it my self, also I like the design.

Windows 8 is a tablet OS, nothing more. You know why? Because metro has massive squares made for touching, why else would you make a UI like that?. This is why it should not be a desktop OS.

It's expected that they make an OS for tablets when they're moving into that market.
It's not just blocks scattered in one UI. There's an option to have a desktop which can perform everything that Windows 7 can. On top of that, W8 outperforms W7 in nearly every aspect.

I know about the desktop UI, but why the hell would they get rid of the start button if they didn't intend you to use a tablet?
