Moral Dualism

Moral dualism is the belief of the benevolent and the malignant. Most religious systems have some form of moral dualism - in western religions, for instance, a conflict between good and evil. Moral dualism simply implies that there are two moral opposites at work, in other words, right and wrong.

What do you guys think on Dualism?

Anyway I believe in dualism. I feel that things are considered good and evil and such actions have consequences, whether personally or socially.

Oui, exactly, how do we ever know what's right or wrong? Someone else's right may be your wrong, what's your right be may their wrong. How do we know what is right or wrong?

I'll go first. I believe that right or wrong is determined differently for different people, usually due to circumstance.
For instance, in a western society, the idea of stoning a woman for adulterous behaviour would be wrong and inhumane, whereas in an eastern society, it is a way of being and people accept it as the right thing to happen.

I figured someone would. Here is a controversial one that many people become disgusted with me after hearing. I find cannibalism acceptable, and if I could, I would encourage it. Let's see if you can guess why.

This is exactly what I thought Sir. I don't know why you would encourage it though Xypher, even if that is the case!

I would encourage it because of Darwinism. The survival of the fittest. Along with that, they are the best source of nutrition and basically everything a human needs to survive.

Well if a Christian would determine right from wrong, he/she would do it this way.
Step 1. God is always right, therefore whatever God does is right
Step 2. Anything that God does not do is wrong.
Step 3. Done

However, as a atheist, I believe that something which is right is a action/motive/thought that will not harm anyone.
Something wrong would be something done out of spite, jealousy or pride

Oui, but would eating a baby count as survival of the fittest, as the baby has no instincts or abilities since humans have been pampered for so long our instincts have been lost through the ages.

Sure it would, because if you had the chance to eat the baby, it's parents obviously aren't there to protect it, or you already defeated the parents. Every species exists for one sole purpose. To pass its genes on to become dominant, more specifically, to ensure you have grand kids. To do that, you must protect your babies and make sure they grow to be strong, and to help your kids raise their kids a little.

Seems rather primal. This is what I mean by things as simple sounding as right or wrong can change under circumstance. If the world as whole had not developed, then yes, cannibalism seems the right action to display dominance and stay alive. Yet now we are in a multicultural and affluent society, cannibalism is deemed a serious offence.
